Young Buffalo - Three Deep free single

Young Buffalo are really young three piece from Mississippi that sound like like early Kings Of Leon Vs some kind of Strokes-esque harmony led garage joy. At the moment it all seems nice and worth listening to, they're either set to be big in the most awful and boring way in 2011 or big in an underground more classy way, its all to early to tell! For now they're a band that seems to be getting a bunch write ups and features online. They have a free single "Three Deep" to give away via their Bandcamp page here.

Popolice - Action

Just been listening to this track by Australian shoe gaze band Popolice called Action that was released for free in 2008. It is just so good and really rocking and quite anthemic and no-one really knows it and the band seems to have got stuck on a permanent break, with the main guy doing two other bands New Estate and Teeth And Tongue so I thought I'd share it with you guys. So at least at some point, with someone, somewhere, I might actually be able to talk about how good it is!! And maybe that will get the band back together..!

I'm a bit late on these guys, ЭЗ3O|0/O\0|O~> they also might be called Our Sad Hardcore, it's all a bit confusing. They released a Russian Zombie Rave mixtape about 4 months ago which was a limited download release on Soundcloud and featured an all Russian mix of slowed down, stretched, screwed and delayed dance tracks. It was/is very good. They released a follow up about a month ago of which all the downloads are now gone. The three tracks below are the only ones to download at the moment though you can listen to more, as you download these three, including the Zombie Rave mixes on their Soundcloud page. The second track here is also featured on the ℑ⊇≥◊≤⊆ℜ's Zombie Rave mixtape "Zombie Rave 4" the final one in the series!

Creators of monolithic Witch House sounds Dream Boat have created a video for their new song XVII, which is assembled from footage from rare Danish film Lykkefanten by Jesper Neilsen. The song is the first in a series of songs to be released through different means in the coming months leading up to a new Dream Boat release!

18 Carat Affair - chillwave before chillwave!

"18 Carat Affair has made improvised/layered music collages since 04' using influence, tape machines, guitars and synthesizers." Thus professes their Soundcloud page. 18 Carat Affair are a band from Kansas City, Missouri who have a sound that drifts from dream pop to garage rock to beat based synth operatics! A bit like Fiveng or Neon Indian.

There are a few free downloads on the Soundcloud page and a whole lot more to find via their Tumblr which serves as their main website. For example the Cassette Fantasy EP which is..

"A series of lush gritty songs mostly made with a Casio SK-200 sampler. All the songs were improvised through pessimism and recorded using a General Electric reel to reel using tape dating 11/5/63 (hiss)." Download it here.

There is a lot of material here, another good one to download is Spent Passions a compilation of over 30 tracks recorded from 2005-2009 and all improvised!

This is good stuff, chillwave before chillwave, bouncy, groovy and the stuff of drugged up days in bed, glittery and woozy like waking up and drinking Malibu and eating cake while still in bed.

You should definitely check out Pictures which is one of the tracks that you can download from their Souncloud page, it manages to be minimal as well as chillwavey, smooth beats and pulsing synths and blissed out vocals combining to create a lounge R&B sex song good enough to get down to anywhere anytime!

Mishka have just done a huge special article on all the new wave of Goth that's taking over the musical underground. Chick Fights are a five piece from Lawrence Kansas that make haunted psychedelic garage rock.

Dream Drunk - Yknyzorots album.

There are SO many bands with "dream" in the title at the moment and all of them seem good! (Dreams, Dream Date, Dream Boat, Dream Affair!) ..and here's another.

Dream Drunk is a Brooklyn artist who has just released a very eclectic 16 track album noise album called Yknyzorots that ranges from the kind of hard to listen to grinding white noise cacophonies to complicated Asiatic melodies, cut up dream pop samples, buzzing lo-fi guitar and over driven piano stabs, constantly changing and fillled with wierdness.

You could argue that this is a bit of a case of "there's something for everyone" syndrome but I see it more as "I don't get bored!"

//Tense// are just brilliant and I've been championing them on this blog for a while now. I've only just just got their 7" single Turn It Off (released by Mishka) and it kicks ass so I thought I'd share my glee at receiving it!

The glorious red vinyl and red print label looks great but the best visual part of this package is the cover art! What could beat a 70s style leather daddy with handle bar moustache and a raw steak for a face! As soon as I find out who the artworks by I'll update this blog post!

The A side "Turn It Off" is a classic industrial sounding electro funk track, a bassline driving things along with a furry and aggressive sexuality. Get down and sweat to this like it's always and forever 2am in an underground fetish club and the owners just locked the doors!

The B side is an inspired cover of Fleetwood Macs "The Chain" that grinds along slow and brooding, sounding like P.I.L on Valium until it breaks into a great slow building dark dance tune that seems to turn the lyrics "If you don't love me now you'll never love me again" into the nastiest threat ever!

Also.. my name crops up in the "thank you" list on the back cover! AWESOME! Thanks guys!!

RΛINИIΛЯ - Heavy Witch House.

RΛINИIΛЯ only has a Soundcloud presence at the moment, so there isn't much info other than this project originates from Oakland in the U.S. This is droney atmospheric Witch House, drag remixes and moody presence. Like a storm cloud slowly breaking over a mountain and rumbling down into the valley below.

The first track I've featured here is filled with menacing atmospherics, great use of delay pedal and slow dragged beats that when they eventually come in sound like gunshots slowed down for a CSI style investigation.

The second track a re-edit of Lady Gaga's Alejandro is maybe the best Drag/Witch House remix I've heard of this track. The level of echo and delay in relation the how slow it is just works so good! Gaga vocals on Xenon gas (you know, it makes your voice super low -opposite of Helium!)

Pictureplane just posted up a great new mix as part of his Dimensional Rip art persona. And it seems pretty damn good. As Travis says himself its; "a way of altering the reality of both myself and the world (universe) at large, attempting to tear open and manipulate the fabric of reality, basically. ..a magical platform for social change. No matter how big or small that change is. 'Change' is relative. Tearing through from one dimension to the next."

The mix is slowed down and transformed happy hardcore, rave, and jungle tunes.

Fiveng -dream pops new master of ceremonies!

Fiveng is one guy from San Fransisco creating dreamy, woozy pop that I don't want to say is Chillwave but it is. I don't want to label it as such because it's bigger than the genre (like Neon Indian for example.) This is going to be someone who deserves to be really big, though whether that will happen of not is another thing entirely. Pitchfork gave his first single 8/10 which is a good start!

Its a big Californian sound filled with warm glorious synth melodies and great harmonies. Vocals recorded from inside the perfect breaking wave, reverberating with mellow joy.

Brilliantly original percussion running under sumptuous guitar tracks and babbling bird song.

His first single Give Me A Taste/Jonah is a double A side and deserves that over the top "double A side" label more than anything else I've heard in long time. How could you choose between these two songs! Released in August this year on the Beachtapes label it is also available to download for whatever price you want to give from his Bandcamp page.

BITE has teamed up with GOD DON’T LIKE IT, who will be releasing the limited edition compilation (via Robot Elephant Records), and have arranged to bring two of their favourite DISARO acts, to play at BITE, for not only the first time in London, but the first time in the UK.

Also on board are, Super Super, who were the first magazine to champion the DISARO label and drag/witch house movement, making them cover stars of issue #21 back in July 2010. From Hubble the solo project of Ben Greenberg from Zs and Pygmy Shrews its a shredding guitar and loop pedal extravaganza along the lines of a new Lightning Bolt! Awesome! I love the kind of video it is too, documenting an event like that, all filmed at dawn as well it seems, such nice light.

Witch House glitter bombs ~Story Of Isaac, BLΛCK RΛ!NB0VV and †‡†

Soundcloud is a veritable hive of symbol based bands, fans, remixers and djs! It's to Witch House what Myspace was for Emo! Oh and dont get me started on how Myspace have just gone and got it so wrong with their re-imagining of the site.. I see it going under within the year. If only they had gone in a Tumblr style direction instead of settling for"bad Wordpress blog" stylings! Any way thats for another post.

Today I want to share three bands and three songs that kick ass, slow and heavy, screwed and dragged, epic dance music for recession squatting, glitter sleeping bags under dripping roofs, broken mirrorballs sprouting mushrooms, dancing to the end of the world high on retro drugs. Only the paranoid look back to the past, future now Zombie Raves!

First up is Story Of Isaac who is making awesome tunes and whose Witch House mix has been getting so much traffic to this blog of late, I'm gonna call him a London Witch House phenomenon.
The track I've chosen is his zombie rave remix of Tatu's "All The things She Said" a song that was great originally but now sounds ten times better, like a doom trance epic voiced by a 80 year old soul singer, just so.. well just listen this shit it slays!

I'm also loving that artwork to the left that accompanies the release!

The next band and track is by Witch House giant †‡† (also pronounced "ritualzzz") with a track in collaboration with How I Quit Crack called Eye. This is a slow apocalyptic dirge through a night landscape of bass bombings and R&B percussion samples with a vocal that soars like a acid dripping Condor, one part vocal to three parts reverb and delay. Its a proper little song too, verse chorus, that kind of thing! Dark and dirty beats and tonal chiming riffs and recorded by aiming a mike at the moon and playing out through festival size speakers!

This track was only a limited Soundcloud download release and reached its limit within hours of release so no download for this at the moment, but just take a listen!

RITUALZ - EYE (FEAT. HOW I QUIT CRACK) by rrritualzzz

Last but definitely not least is a song created not as collaboration but by one Witch House artist for another! A Witchian love-in!
