El Guincho - the Bombay video!!

EL GUINCHO | Bombay from MGdM | Marc Gómez del Moral on Vimeo.

Maybe the best music video of 2010! The track is Bombay by El Guincho and I just dunno how they had the time or money to do this! The story is kind of about the guy recording the events of the world as if its a story straight out of The Life Aqautic! Not only is the video amazing but the track is great too! El Guincho is touring America and Europe from now up until Xmas so check him out when he gets near - all dates up on the Myspace! If you're a Brighton resident then he is playing at The Hope on the 9th November!

Prinzhorn Dance School - new release!

In a world of The XX winning the Mercury Prize, it seems only right that the kings of understated minimalism should now return, Prinzhorn Dance School have justy released their first piece of music in 3 years, "Seed, Crop, Harvest" and it's true to form PDS with stripped out production, brooding guitar and discordant beat.

It has all the voids and crawl spaces of a band like The XX but with the balls and heart of someone like Scout Niblet.

Its available to downlaod from their site for free and is going to be released on 7" on october 11th on DFA. Check it out below.

Gay Mormon Kissing Club.

Gay Mormon Kissing Club have a great name thats for sure! An unsigned Berlin band they lusciously describe their music as Goth&B. It's Witch House and it's mash-up and it is what is says on the tin. Dragged vocals over edited up R&B, pop and electronica, echo and drag, Zombie Rave stylings and vaguely occultist visuals. Its very now and its very listen-able and very intentionally wrong, (dragged Backstreet Boys!) They seem to mostly make short mixes and remixes but still its all good! Gay Goth R&B into the future!

SLEEP ∞ OVER -new video!

SLEEP ∞ OVER are an unsigned all girl Witch Housian trio, who list their influences as Astral Projection and Hypno-birthing.
They make ethereal sounding music with beautiful vocals that drift over landscapes of clicking echoes and lo-fi organ patches. SLEEP ∞ OVER are like Raw Moans or Party Trash in that they blur a warm fuzzy line between the more dark and aggressive sounding Witch House bands and the floaty dance music of Chillwave. Its great stuff, they have had a 7" and a cassette release sell out already but you can still get a split 7" with Pure Ecstasy and another cassette EP if you visit their Myspace.
Go check their Tumblr as well for some great image action.

Superheroes Of BMX at Brains.

Superheroes of BMX are a Brighton based DJ trio who play loads of bars and clubs all over the city, they promote themselves kind of as if they're a band with press releases and photo shoots.

They have a punk rock kind of attitude to DJing, hating on trends and scenes and avoiding playing what they consider the usual DJ fodder. Expect the kind of inspired insanity that flips from The Flaming Lips to Atari Teenage Riot, the Weather Girls "Its Raining Men" to the most obscure 80s Euro pop and back again to Wu-Tang Clan and the soundtrack The Bill.

I swung by their night Brains at The Westhill pub on Friday to say hi and take some pics and despite being a man down they were as per usual kicking it in style, rocking some ghetto garbage chains and playing everything from Kiss to Stereo Total.

The Rayographs "Space of the Halls video"

The Rayographs are an all girl three piece from London who rock a dark blues-ish garage sound along the lines of PJ Harvey or Patti Smith getting together in a dark Moroccan cave to make atmospheric garage rock for passing Berber tribesmen.
Its got that "turn off the lights and make out" feel, darkly feminine yet also driving and aggressive its a sound for dark red carpets, candles and wine, lounging on a winters night amidst 60s inspired Doors-esque décor, watching Performance and burning polaroid photographs.
They have had two 7" records out in the last two years (both sold out) and have just recorded a début album that is to be released soon. The video below is for the first single from it "Space of the Halls" and was directed by Mike Prior.

ROB FLOWERS, THESAURUS Exhibition at The Drawers Gallery.

Not a music post this one but equally good and just as important!
The Drawers Gallery is a new exhibition and project space housed beneath east London’s Haggerston Pub.
Curator and gallery director Timothy Stevens (Slade School of Fine Art graduate and Bum Bum Train collaborator) is a true devotee of life’s cultural oddities, both funny, bizarre and beautiful. The galleries aim is to bring an eccentrically personal programme of events.
I'm a bit late posting as the private view was on the 1st September but the exhibition continues for the rest of the month. Check how cool this looks!

Raw Moans - Aqua Net.

Raw Moans hitting us up with some erotic bathtime action here in this beautiful video for his song Aqua Net, is this the indie equivalent of Motley Crue videos? On the Disaro label Raw Moans makes a glo-fi chillwave sound that also drifts blissfully towards all things dark and Witchy as well.

There's a double CD-R album coming out 22 SEP 2010 called "We Want It Beautiful NOT REAL" while CD 2 is a remix of the album by loads of different Witch House bands like High Park And Mater Suspiria Vision called "RW RMX".
Get it like all the Disaro albums by messaging on Myspace or emailing the label!

∆AIMON

∆AIMON are an American Witch House band following a similar sonic path to GR†LLGR†LL or///▲▲▲\\\.

So far there are only two tracks and this one video, but then this is a really recent project with an internet presence only since June of this year!

The video is a bit NSFW but only in a Victorian way.

Doom and Gloom are actually pretty happy.

Despite the picture Doom and Gloom are not a spaced out chillwave dream pop band, rather this boy/girl duo create a jerky pop based repertoire of songs that have a sonic history in Of Montreal and Arial Pink.

Great song structures, harmonies, backing vocals layered over keyboard ditties and an emotional grandiose sprawl of sound.

Their demos are all available from their Bandcamp page and have that "not quite finished" demo quality but are still amazing.. expect bigger things and enjoy what you have here for free!

Behind the scenes info on the Mercury awards.

So its the Barcleycard sponsored Mercury Prize tonight, coming live from 10m at Londons Grosvenor Hotel. A prize that is both interesting and different as well as spiralling inevitably towards awfulness and music biz back slapping.

All the nominated acts are performing except for Dizzy Rascal and there are three separate stages for it all to happen on! Its about to hit the television airways in half an hour, the performance are all pre-recorded and.. Mumford And Sons, nominated for their piss poor album Sigh No More just had an on stage malfunction with their base breaking and not actually coming through on the PA.. They looked pissed.

Its not much but hey its a "scoop" and its The Mercurys not the Kerrrang awards, its not like people are going to kick off or shout drunken abuse at each other they are all to busy thinking about the projected record sales and endorsements if they win!

(Photo: The XX on the red carpet looking minimal and smart.)

This year the short list is as follows:

Dizzee Rascal – Tongue N' Cheek
The xx – xx
Paul Weller – Wake Up the Nation
Corinne Bailey Rae – The Sea
Mumford and Sons – Sigh No More
Laura Marling – I Speak Because I Can
Foals – Total Life Forever
Wild Beasts – Two Dancers
Biffy Clyro – Only Revolutions
Villagers – Becoming a Jackal
Kit Downes Trio – Golden
I Am Kloot – Sky at Night

Walsh, free "Smoke Weed about It" album.

Shit whats this? Amdiscs produce some great stuff and here's another, a 7 track album called "Smoke Weed About It" from a guy or a band called Walsh who I dont know anything at all about.
Its available to download for free from Bandcamp or from Amdiscs themselves.

Part Chillwave, part blissed out hip hop, part midnight driving electro along the lines of Gatekeeper. Its varied and interesting and has a great album title (almost as good as my Hippie taunting "go make some jewelry about it" which is more just an insult.) The album also has 2 guest vocalists on it, Mat Cothran and Squadda Bambino, not bad for free! Check it out!

The King Dude videos rock!

Really getting on a King Dude thing at the moment. Just discovered the videos, so good, the kinda thing I wanna start putting together. So today on the blog is just a whole bunch of great viewing to be had. First up is My Beloved Ghost -the guitar sound reminds me of the more melancholic of tracks from The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

Then we have the video for The Black Triangle, and its sexually ambiguous pretagonist.

Finally we have a video with more video shake than The Blair Witch Project, it wouldn't have been that hard to keep it more steady, but any way try not to get motion sickness and make sure you watch the surprise twist ending!

Tearist live on the radio!

Not featured Tearist on the blog yet, well here is the perfect chance, with a video of a live performance on KXLU 88.9 Fm Los Angeles. I love this, these guys are so good and the film quality is brilliant!

Erleen -dance music for Russian spies.

I discovered Erleen about a month back and I have kept meaning to blog about her, then today I saw this 3D video by Cosmotropia De Xam for her Cowbell Song and it was like the last straw and I had to post something up.

From San Diego, California she makes lo-fi electro-ish sounds, with spoken word vocals and dark synth attitude. Its quirky and a bit witchy and industrial. The songs have a great looping pace, they bounce forward with the brakes cut, not fast but definitely unstoppable.
It reminds me of an updated sounding version of the 8-bit post electroclash bands that were around a few years ago, bands like 1-800 Zombie or CC Ivory, I mean its not exactly like that but it stirs a similar part of my brain.

You can download all her songs for free from her Soundcloud page here.

Erleen also has a Bandcamp page with one song to download for free on it, the spelling challenged "Shut The Fuk Up" which again is free to download.

So Cosmotropia De Xams video creating empire slowly rolls on, with another collaboration/commission, soon it will be like Pharrell, and it will cost at least a £1000 for one of these videos, but it will be worth it to turn a lo-fi dark dance track into a Witch House top ten smash hit!
Dig out your red and green 3D glasses and watch below.

King Dude video interview by Nick Gazin.

King Dude Gets Interviewed and Performs "No One Is Here" from Nick Gazin on Vimeo.

So its taken till now to listen to King Dude and wow he's really good. Part of the Disaro label he does gothic neo folk. In this video he's being interviewed at the Mishka store in Brooklyn in front of his Actual Pain t.shirts which are almost as good as his music, then he plays a tune. Found this video on the Sorta Human blog which as per usual kicks ass!

Witch House mix.
