Byrds Of Paradise - Kids In The Hall video.

kids in the hall - byrds of paradise from Martin Anderson on Vimeo.

Byrds Of Paradise classic, unsigned, four piece garage punk from Brooklyn with extra band smarts (like street smarts but musical.)
This is an awesome video that starts with a reversed Altamont that makes everything happy with no deaths and then just goes partying! Stab that guy to life Hells Angels!
There is a 7" just out on Wild World Records (which I think is the Vivian Girls own label) and another on Don Giovanni Records.

Red Tide and Las Robertas.

Two great free albums to download for you here.

First is a self released album, that came out in October last year, by LA band Red Tide.
This is a shoegazey, post rock feel with a clean psychedelic grunge element. A Radiohead/Jeff Buckley feel. It harks back to an American 90s sound in a really progressive way. The 7 track mini album is available to download for free from the bands Bandcamp profile.
They are playing various dates around California over the next few months so go see them if you can!

The second band is Las Robertas.

A lo-fi, 60s inspired garage group from Costa Rica.
These four girls have a sound to easily rival bands like Vivian Girls, Best Coast or Girls At Dawn.
They also have made their album available for free via Bandcamp. It's ten tracks long and is entitled Cry Out Loud. They also have a blog.
Its great to find a band making amazing music from somewhere you wouldn't perhaps expect. If you were only going to download one of these two bands albums go for this one!!

Pearl Harbour, Califonian surfer reverb.

I heard about these guys from Skull Kontrol blog. This is like a Vivian Girls down the echoes of a perfect californian swell. Melodic, psychedelic, reverb garage with all the hard edges smoothed away by the waves. Delving into some of the more missed out aspects of all this 60s garage punk sonic mine that the 21st century is digging into. For example, noodling guitar work with a clear sound. No Distortion!
Stoner without the paranoia!

Pearl Harbour is just two LA girls, Sky and Piper, they have a CD-R with handmade cover art called "Calistonia Dreamin' Sessions" which you can buy of them from their myspace.
Plus a 12" ep out on Mexican Summer in October.

If you love Pearl Harbour then you'll also love Best Coast! -same place, same sound, same weed!
