I like to think I helped this band take off when I blogged them last year.. lol.

This is a great video by Gareth Phillips from NTSH London.

Valis remix Age Of Consent -wonders are born!

Valis are in my opinion one of the best bands to not only to come out of Chicago but also the whole of the United States in the last few years, and they have have a new track out, well two actually!!

So after that giant bigging up they better deliver hadnt they.. well they do with the song The Cant, a crooning stomper, all funk bass, vocal samples, swirling synths and beats that could only make you dance like an overly aggressive Columbian drug lord.

They have also remixed Age Of Consents track The Beach to great effect turning it from an understated 80s, Top Of The Pops appearance, slow down track into a the ultimate frenetic synth funk dance floor piece, filled with tense jaw grinding moments! The catalyst for this remix was Valis checking out my last post about them and then discovering Age Of Consent who I'd written about the week before, they got in touch and magic happened! Age Of Consent -dark sounds of tomorrows electro past!

Age Of Consent are two ex members of Shit Disco, Joe Reeves and Darren Cullen, making melancholic electro pop in the same vein as 80s greats like Heaven 17 or Berlin era Bowie but with all the right sounds that are making up 2010.

I loved Shit Discos super fast stuff that skirted around the edge of "New Rave" or perhaps they were New Rave I cant remember but Age Of Consent slow things down and bring the catchyness with a vengeance. I was all over this when I first heard it and almost thought for a moment that it was the Klaxons new stuff under a different name!!

The three songs that make up the demo are great, very well written pop songs, all dark electro heartbreak, the kind of the sound La Roux should have had but didn't! They were produced by Luke Smith (Depeche Mode, Clor, Foals) in Italy and you can tell a bit of that dark Italian Disco feeling permeates into their sound!
