Sheen have a great post-punk shoegaze sound all melancholic drifting and melodic, great clear chiming guitar that at points evokes early Sonic Youth all topped with a vocal that bests most out there. It's all really good, this is a band that should to have an edge of success about them if the world knows its stuff. Download their demos from Soundcloud for free.

Fokkawolfe - Mixtape #1 (New Guitars)

So here is the first ever Fokkawolfe Mixtape. I don't know why I hadn't got around to making one before but anyway here it is, a curated selected of some great new guitar bands spanning new shoegaze, britpop, punk, grunge, extreme garage and whatever, all from the last three years, most from the last six months and a lot from bands local to Brighton or London.

This is good, really good, straight out and out Shoegaze by a band called Mansion, a London duo. Both songs on their Soundcloud are available to download for free. go check out their Facebook page too.

SPC ECO

Gorgeously hypnotic shoegaze feeling track by SPC ECO, a brilliant band featuring one of the guys from Curve. I've only just discovered these in the last few days, they sound so good. Dreamy 90s electronic, shoegaze, trip-hop, dark dream pop sounds. Quality. Go check out their Bandcamp to download the many EPs and Albums  they have. 

WhistleJacket

WhistleJacket is some band or dude from London making beautiful droney shoegaze inspired sounds all minimal and rudimentary, full of psychedelia and guitar loving wonder. Post punk lost beneath a wave of reverb and warm muffled joy.

Bare Pale

Fogged out shoegaze from London from a guy called Bare Pale. There are six tracks up on his Soundcloud all the recordings are as lo-fi and washed out, scuzzed and blurred as could be, and each one is a gem. This dude is excellent. Psychedelic Moses - Polycom Vol 2

Brilliant compilation from a Japanese label called Psychedelic Moses. I know nothing about this label or the artist featured other than it's really good! And free to download.This is beautiful bitter-sweet pop that ranges from glacial down tempo instrumentals to sparkly guitar led pop songs with vocals and eveything, it sounds ace and different. Go get it.

LKBK by Porteur

Beautiful beautiful beautiful.. dreamy washed out seasons of noise and wonder washing over you with airs of guitars and vocals half tattered in the wind. Echoing snippets caught in nostalgias warm grip peeling to your ears from some distance, you think of M83, of chillwavers, of teenage sad guitars and bedroom moods, lost in a fog of reverb and jewel like glittering magic. This album is the tits. Go get it, it's called LKBK, its by Porteur and its out on Holy Page records. Genius.

Hand In Hand by The Mekano Set

Hand In Hand by The Mekano Set is an album of Industrial EBM dark beats and gothyness, bass heavy and hard. Swirling shoe gaze moments mixed in with vicious drum programming, deeply throbbing basslines and haunted fuzzed out vocals. 


The Mekano Set are a trio with two bass players.. they release wonderful statements like "We do not believe in gender. We do not believe in competing. We do not believe in success. We do not believe in belief." They announce they are "Nihilism you can dance to"

Inca Gold III

Inca Gold make dreamy guitar psychedelia like Deerhoof or some such, its all very shoegaze if the the shoes you're gazing at are emerald encrusted loafers and not dirty converse.. It's epic drone-pop, glittering, chill and proper band made. The EP "Inca Gold III" is available to download for free from Bandcamp.

Only Real is too real.

Only Real's sound is a slow low guitar whisper of promised dreams to come, echoing and shimmering 80s guitar through cartoon wonderlands and summer parties from teen bedrooms. Shoe gaze for people with cool sneakers, London times, dream pop with grime raps, new, good, listen and learn, upbeat future anthems. No downloads as of yet. Keep a look out.

Soft Lighting

Soft Lighting is Bryan Cox, a Kansas City based musician/producer, so no not "that" Brian Cox. Soft Lighting's sounds are all Shoe Gaze, Italo Disco, 80s film soundtracks and warm bouncing Chillwave. The sort of music to climb into a nearby womb with and make out surrounded by slowly undulating candyfloss dream clouds. It's melancholic in that glorious warm and self destructive way that songs sometimes can be, droning and melodic, like being hugged by a woolly xylophone.


Soft Lighting's debut album will be released soon on Synthemesc Recordings. In the mean

Cuss Words - Best American guitar band of 2012

Grungy post-punk Shoe-gaze lo-fi punk with more soul and heart than you could find in a thousand days of searching Bandcamp and Soundcloud for good guitar bands. This is so unconscious and raw, emotional but way cool with it! 
Cuss Words creates the sound of perfect grungey punk hooks and choruses, fuzzed out and discordant at times, beautifully melodic and poised at others. This reminds of first hearing Cerebral Ballzy not because it is in any way similar but because it has that feel of a band very naturally creating a familiar sound in a very original way! 

Cuss Words sound is infused with Americana, with guitar noises and vocals that have strains of The Grateful Dead to Kurt Cobain to Pavement to even The Foo Fighters, but it's all so brilliantly loose and lo-fi, so warm and home-made. Jeffrey Lewis's City And Eastern Songs album with its punked out thrashy tracks is also a sonic reference that comes to mind as do the harmonies and quiet beauty of some old Neil Young.

The bands current location is Brooklyn but its members come from all over, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Canada and the band are unsigned at the moment; this needs to change quick -some UK Independent needs to get on this quick! This band is also a three piece which is just a such a winning combination, plus they have a female drummer! Win! 


Cuss Words EP is $5 from Bandcamp and I more than strongly encourage you to go buy it! It's a total winner!

Whip Angels - Sex Death Rebirth

The Whip Angels are the sonic extension of Sex Death Rebirth, an online art collection curated by Jenna Kraus. This collaboration strives to arouse and awaken, exploring both the esoteric and erotic. 


The Whip Angels are dark brooding sensual and sexual sounding, lo-fi atmospheric and esoteric experimentation, sometimes Doom sometimes buzzing electronic whispered vocals and distortion. Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen style Vs My Bloody Valentine or NIN.


 Sex Death Rebirth are kind of a sex cult if you will, their blurb reads:
