Do You Feel What I Feel Deer

Do You Feel What I Feel Deer create multi layered, multi instrumental folk with as much atmosphere and rich psychedelic Wicker Man style intensity as you can shake a stick at. Made up in part from members of that equally mesmeric band Milk & Biscuits, Do You Feel What I Feel Deer occupy a more quiet and jewel like sonic realm that lulls you into a warm twilight meadow of choral wonder. Download "Beat Glorious Heart" for free from Bandcamp.

Emily DeHority

However much I vow to not blog or listen to Twee it always sneaks back in somehow! Today its Emily DeHority, she makes music on her green Ukelele and sings songs about normal boring weird stuff in a terribly charming, awkward and lo-fi way that feels pretty punk. She has a few albums on Bandcamp to download for free or for money. Got listen and download.

Papercutz - Where Beasts Die

Tuesday morning is different from Monday, less water rave and more beautiful epic ghost folk. :Papercutz are from Portugal and makes some of the most "stop and stare in amazement" style music around. The track Where Beasts Die is the second single from their album "The Blur Between Us" out July 10. It's just amazing. Rivers was the first single.. it too is a gigantic masterpiece. Words like "haunted" "spectral" and "dark" are silly words that in no way convey the greatness of this band. Total winner.

zimní son by milky toad + chikiss

Zimní Son is a collaborative album between Russian electronic artists Milky Toad and Chikiss. It's a wonderful lo-fi electronic folk masterpiece of an album full of whispered crystalline tundra ambiance. Just look at the album cover it says it all. With its orgasmic retro synths and upbeat VHS mood this is like Chillwave if it was about winter wonderlands rather than summer beach ones. Beautiful. Go download the album for only $1 from the Dopefish Family Bandcamp, it's well worth it because it is just so beautiful and different!

Cloud Seeding.

In keeping with the last post but with a more sinful blues and darkness tip is Cloud Seeding. Cloud Seeding is a music singles project by Brooklyn guitarist Kevin Serra. The first single features singer Marissa Nadler. It's dark and slow and a pine forest on fire at midnight type thing, stoner folk, red wine and daggers, satin sheets hung out to dry, distant mountain paths, kissing at dawn, waking up and eating meat, looking at the stars and swearing oaths to eternity, grinding your fingers on well worn guitar strings, blood and rose petals, the 60's from the bottle of a glass, romance and shotguns, the devil at your door, black bubbles in the air, crows on the washing line, raining sunday whispers and baby bats in a cardboard box. You know the sort of thing. Well have a listen.

Alpha Couple.

Alpha Couple are a Post Canadian tweenoise, psychefolk & lo-fi electronic ambient duo. The couple have pursued vulnerable noise & emotional often dark live performances since 2009.
This is quiet lovely stuff, maybe the total opposite of what their name implies. They have released a single called "Edna Pontellier" which is available for free here, along with a very nice photo collage. Have a listen to the single below.

Sandy Denny 19 CD boxset release!

For classic folk fans and I'd also say for the more discerning fan of escapist lyrical pop then the name Sandy Denny might stand out somewhat.
Those fans also might get pretty excited by the forthcoming 19 CD box set release out on the 1st November via industry behemoth Universal. Yes you read that right a 19 CD box set, that's an insanely large amount of CDs and probably one of the last of its kind as things push forward this kind of thing is gonna look so quaint in a few years.
Most people will get the whole Fairport Convention side of things but she also worked with loads of other people and had a bunch of solo albums before her death in '78 of "traumatic mid-brain haemorrhage" from falling down a flight of stairs! On the list of tragic yet strangly odd musical deaths that has to rank pretty high, though I doubt much can be done to out seat the recent "death by rogue hay bale" that oft ELO cellist Mike Edwards in September!
Sandy Denny made some great music in her time though it was mostly posthumously that her following and recognition grew. This box set has pretty much everything she recorded including BBC recordings, alternate takes, acoustic versions etc. As you can imagine its full of extra postcards booklets and general box set stuff which any fan would expect. There's something very visceral in the way a lot of the acoustic guitar sounds with her, kinda heavy and woody. I imagine Neo-folk paganist King Dude might take a few things from that sound now and then.
Check out this video below for some classic folk hippie action from Sandy, just look at that hair! Back then in '71 litterally everyone looked like this I guess!
