Fiveng is one guy from San Fransisco creating dreamy, woozy pop that I don't want to say is Chillwave but it is. I don't want to label it as such because it's bigger than the genre (like Neon Indian for example.) This is going to be someone who deserves to be really big, though whether that will happen of not is another thing entirely. Pitchfork gave his first single 8/10 which is a good start!
Its a big Californian sound filled with warm glorious synth melodies and great harmonies. Vocals recorded from inside the perfect breaking wave, reverberating with mellow joy.
MGMTs Oracular Spectacular cover shoot taken to its logical conclusion.
Jesus and Mary Chain doing Beach Boys covers in 2012 from inside a tee pee!
Brilliantly original percussion running under sumptuous guitar tracks and babbling bird song.
His first single Give Me A Taste/Jonah is a double A side and deserves that over the top "double A side" label more than anything else I've heard in long time. How could you choose between these two songs! Released in August this year on the Beachtapes label it is also available to download for whatever price you want to give from his Bandcamp page.
Fivengs latest single Easy was released at the end of September and is a more than worthy follow up. The video below is for the b.side from it! Again you can download it for whatever price you want from his Bandcamp page.
Now I dont really know much about Blissed Out, its definitely not the Blissed Out who come from New York and are halfway chillwave and halfway drone noise. What I do know is that this Blissed Out are really great chillwave music and its free and you can get it a three track EP called "Pure" from their bandcamp here! (UPDATE: I think that their bandcamp page has been taken down. but see Lemonade Dance Party above for more info!)
Their myspace has no music on it anymore and only 3 real friends, Atlantic At Pacific, Me and cheesy LA rocker Vince Falzone!
I think this could be a side project of Atlantic At Pacific or Bye Bye Blackbird, (who originally recommended them) but why would either of those two bands would want to do a side project of very similar stuff?
The best guess is they are a new band waiting to find a better name, one that isnt already taken, but who knows and who cares so long as you can still listen to their wonderfully smacked out jams!
Coming from Chicago you expect some dark and dangerous EBM based electronica but Paralyse Humanity Sequence swim in the blue sea of chillwave!
The project of one guy, Nick Donlin, who describes his music as the dramatic background music of the O.C. This is full of reverbed harmonies, echoing guitar and implied waves breaking on shimmering shoegaze beaches. He's got a EP to download for free from his myspace (here's the direct link) and is looking for shows, so if you're a promoter in Chicago contact him!
I heard about these guys from Skull Kontrol blog. This is like a Vivian Girls down the echoes of a perfect californian swell. Melodic, psychedelic, reverb garage with all the hard edges smoothed away by the waves. Delving into some of the more missed out aspects of all this 60s garage punk sonic mine that the 21st century is digging into. For example, noodling guitar work with a clear sound. No Distortion! Stoner without the paranoia!
Pearl Harbour is just two LA girls, Sky and Piper, they have a CD-R with handmade cover art called "Calistonia Dreamin' Sessions" which you can buy of them from their myspace. Plus a 12" ep out on Mexican Summer in October.
If you love Pearl Harbour then you'll also love Best Coast! -same place, same sound, same weed!
